Our venue manager told us that our DJs must have insurance, otherwise we will have to go with their in house DJ. Are your performers insured?

What your venue manager is talking about in this instance, is Public Liability Insurance. Why this is important is because if someone at the venue gets injured or property gets damaged, as a result of our services, then the venue owner's insurance company may not cover the cost of damages.

Carrying public liability insurance is important for both ourselves, and our clients (you) which is why we have taken out a policy on public liability. We also ensure that any service provider recommended, or provided, by us has their own public liability insurance.

A friend of mine told me that public performers, such as yourself, require a certain license in order to lawfuly carry out their business. What is this and are you licensed?

While you are shopping around for quotes from music service providers, it is important to ask them if they carry the appropriate licenses. It will be quite embarrassing if the authorities cut your wedding short because your DJ was trying to cut corners.

The job of a mobile DJ is to go into public places (halls, function centres, etc) and play music that is rightly owned by someone else. If you look at any CD that you have purchased, you will notice a disclaimer that reads something like "Any copying, lending, renting, public performance or broadcast without the authority of the copyright owner is prohibited".

In order to comply with this disclaimer. We have purchased a public performance license from PPCA to maintain our mobile DJ business while abiding by the law.
